
Tyler Kinnear
Career Communities: Composition
Tyler Kinnear, PhD, (he/him) is a career advisor with a background in musicology and sound studies. As assistant director of Career Engagement, he advises students—specializing in the composition community—and coordinates Career Center workshops and boot camps. He meets students where they are and helps them craft stories that are both effective and rewarding in an ever-changing career landscape. Tyler also co-leads Berklee’s annual screen scoring industry trip to Los Angeles, giving students direct insight into professional workflows and industry networks.
Before joining the Career Center in 2023, Kinnear served as an internship coordinator at Emerson College and as an award-nominated humanities instructor at Western Carolina University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He holds a PhD in musicology from the University of British Columbia, an MA in musicology from the University of Oregon, and a BM in percussion from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Kinnear is an active part of Boston’s cultural scene as a vinyl DJ (@deep_digs).
