Events: Clinics and Master Classes

Featured drummer and bandleader Larnell Lewis will be interviewed as part of the 2025 Armand Zildjian Artist-in-Residence Program. The event will be moderated by Sean Skeete, dean of the Performance Division; Yoron Israel, chair of the Percussion Department; and Eric Gross, Zildjian relations artist and manager. The program will also include a question-and-answer segment for student participation. 
 

Visiting artist Marcelo Bettoni invites you on a dual journey through jazz. One path follows The Routes of Jazz, the book tracing the genre’s evolution; the other dives deep into the vibrant Latin influences that have shaped its sound. Woven together, these two narratives create a rich, immersive experience that brings jazz history—and its global rhythms—to life.

Venezuelan guitarist and composer Pedro Barboza presents Tres Caminos, an album inspired by the musical traditions of Venezuela and reimagined in a personal voice always inspired by jazz. 

Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Vocal Arts Department proudly presents a master class on Japanese art song led by Japanese American mezzo-soprano Dr. Sahoko Timpone.

Charly Arana teaches this master class, with a special focus on defining and analyzing the use of syncopation in the rhythms and melodies that provide identity and a unique personality to significant and globally-recognized musical genres like American blues and jazz, Cuban son, Colombian vallenato, Venezuelan joropo, Peruvian marinera, Brazilian samba, and Argentine tango.

Acclaimed pianist Eric Lu presents a master class, working with three Boston Conservatory at Berklee piano students. This event is free and open to the public.
