Applying for Housing (Entering Students)
On-campus housing is guaranteed for students starting in the fall (September) semester who fill out the Housing License Agreement before the May 5 deadline. After the deadline has passed, on-campus housing is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Spring and summer incoming students are not guaranteed housing.
If you are a student entering in the fall semester, you can apply for housing by following the steps below:
- Step 1: Access the housing application and portal through the next steps page of the admissions portal. You must first submit your tuition deposit before filling out your housing application.
- Step 2: Log into your Housing portal
- Students Issued a OnePass: If you have been issued a OnePass from Berklee, please select "BERKLEE SSO Student Login" below and enter your OnePass username and password.
- Students Not Issued a OnePass: If you have not yet been issued a OnePass, please select "Register" and follow the registration instructions listed. In order to register, you will need your Student ID number.
- Step 3: Once logged in, select Housing Applications and follow the prompts. Read over the Housing License Agreement (HLA) and sign it before May 5.
- Step 4: Wait for further information sent from our office via email, including a housing confirmation.
- Information regarding room selection, roommates, and move-in will be sent out after the May 5 deadline
Applying for Housing (Continuing Students)
Housing for continuing students is not guaranteed. All continuing students interested in academic year on-campus housing are encouraged to participate in the on-campus housing lottery, which occurs during the month of March.
- Step 1: In March, log in to your Housing portal and fill out the Academic Year Application (HLA).
- Step 2: In early April, our office will hold a housing lottery and inform you whether we are offering you on-campus housing, or whether you will be placed on a waitlist. Those not chosen for housing through this lottery process will be put on a waitlist and receive an update on their waitlist position every other week.
Students confirmed for housing will receive more information from our office regarding room and roommate selection following the lottery results.
Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the answers to common questions that students and their families have about the housing application process.
I am a student entering during the summer semester. How do I apply for on-campus housing for fall and spring?
Students entering in the summer must also fill out a separate application for academic year housing. These students should fill out the continuing student application during the month of March to be included in our continuing student housing lottery.
I was placed in an economy room. What does that mean?
Economy rooms are rooms that are slightly smaller than other spaces on campus designated for the same number of residents. Students who are assigned to economy rooms will receive a partial refund at the end of each semester, which is calculated based on the number of weeks the room stays fully occupied. If an economy room stays fully occupied for an entire academic year, the residents of that room will receive a maximum refund of $1,501 each semester.
Who is guaranteed housing on campus?
The only students guaranteed housing on campus are new entering students who pay their tuition deposit and complete a Housing License Agreement by May 5 and are entering during a fall semester. Entering students who do not meet that deadline, or who are entering during a spring semester, are not guaranteed housing. Continuing students are not guaranteed housing, but can participate in a housing lottery process during the month of March.
Are there any important dates or deadlines I should be aware of?
How does the room selection process work for returning students?
Returning students who have completed the Housing Agreement and received a housing offer following the housing lottery will be eligible to participate in the room selection process.
Students may choose to form a roommate group or go through the process individually. During their assigned room selection time, either the group leader or the individual student will log in to the Berklee Housing Portal to view and select from the available rooms.
More detailed information about the process, including specific dates and instructions, is sent via email.
I was placed on the waitlist for housing. What does that mean?
Students who are not initially offered a room on campus, but who have signed the Housing Licensing Agreement, will automatically be added to a waitlist for housing. This means that we are unable to offer you housing at this time, but that we will offer housing to those on the waitlist as spots become available.
Can I cancel my housing licensing agreement (HLA)?
Students who fill out the housing application and are offered housing will be responsible for paying the full amount stated in their housing licensing agreement (HLA). The only students permitted to be released from their housing contract are those who are withdrawing from the institution.
Students who have applied for housing on campus should not sign leases for off-campus housing. To request a housing licensing agreement (HLA) cancellation, students must be approved by the Director of Housing and Residential Education.
I would like to live in a single room. Is this possible?
Our single rooms on campus are largely reserved for students who have approved medical accommodations through Accessibility Resources for Students. If you believe you have a need for a medical accommodation, please reach out to Accessibility Resources and complete their process before the advertised deadline. If you are approved for a medical accommodation and have been offered housing, you will be assigned to a room that meets that accommodation.
